Secrets of the Wood Furniture Making Trade
SANDING: We have found in our 50 years of building hardwood furniture that by sanding the top 4 times…between each sanding spraying a light mist of filtered water bringing up the wood fiber and then sanding with a finer grit of sandpaper…until the last sanding is what we call a “No Fly Zone”…the top is so smooth a fly can’t land on it. We then apply a generous coat of Minwax paste wax…rubbing to a beautiful rich lustrous sheen.
HINT: All solid wood furniture “moves” with moisture and humidity… natural clear shellac does an excellent job sealing the wood and Minwax Paste Wax does a superb job protecting your table top from water marks and finger prints. DO NOT use spray or paper dust removers. To remove dust use a soft slightly damp cloth…once over easy and that’s it. Paper products have wood fibers in them and will scratch fine furniture and glass surfaces. To remove scratches use "Ole English" scratch remover...Available at most hardware stores.
