"What You Should Know About Wood Furniture Before You Purchase!"
Wood furniture is a pleasure to have in one's home! It brings an ambiance to a home you can not get with upholstered furniture.
It also can last for many years if not generations when it is properly taken care of. Solid wood also does not 'go out of style' as quickly as other types of furniture.
When you purchase solid wood furniture you are wanting just that, solid wood, at least I do. Unfortunately you do not always get what you think you are paying for.
Some furniture you think is solid wood, has a little bit of solid wood and the rest is particle board or plywood. While others will use a solid hardwood yet it is a less expensive type, such as Alder or Poplar.
These woods do not have much of a 'grain' to them so they are sprayed with a finish which basically covers the grain up. Due to the sprayed on finish once it comes off, and it will, you can not refinish it.
Once your the finish comes off you have one of a few choices, live with the look of the wood, go purchase some more furniture or attempt to cover up the blemish. The second option is exactly what the big furniture companies want you to do.
It is a good idea from their prospective, they get to sell more furniture.
Learn What You Can Do, For The Next Time
Next time you are in the wood furniture store, you can ask more questions about what exactly you will be buying. Hopefully the salesman knows the answers to your questions.
When the furniture is made of solid hardwood you will be able to see the grain from both sides. You might feel like you are standing on your head to do it though!
Another question you can ask is if you can refinish the furniture once the finish comes off. Also ask what kind of wood the furniture is made of.
Higher quality furniture will be made of high grade hardwoods, such as Oak, Cherry, Maple and Pecan to name a few. These also have more distinct grain patterns which add character and beauty to the furniture.
High grade hardwoods is our preference and we hope it will be yours too. You can do so much more with a good solid hardwood, plus it can last so much longer! Buy the furniture once and reap the benefits for generations!!
